Sugar causes fat deposits in the liver. Some of the fat gets burned up but over time it is likely to be the cause of Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Sugar also harms cholesterol and triglycerides and increases fat in the abdominal cavity.
Sugar causes insulin resistance. This causes the pancreas to secrete more insulin to counter the glucose in the bloodstream. This leads to elevated insulin levels in the blood. The Insulin instructs the fat cells to pick up fat from the blood stream and to hold on to the fat already stored. This is how obesity is caused. The body then becomes more resistant to insulin. The beta cells in the pancreas become damaged and lose the ability to produce adequate insulin and this is how typ2 diabetes comes into the picture and afflicts 300 million people worldwide.
Excess fructose is a known cause of insulin resistance and elevated insulin in the blood.
